Could your breakfast in San Diego be the reason for increasing your fatigue?

Most of us tend to attribute general fatigue to a mixture of stress, age, and the activities a modern hard working life. However, recent studies in health and nutrition have suggested that there may be some factors that can contribute to a noticed increase in feelings of fatigue and exhaustion.

Typically we eat to gain energy but that is not the case when there are ‘hidden’ food intolerances that some individuals may have to certain foods, without even knowing it. Addressing these intolerances and sensitivities is a great first step to restoring energy levels and vitality. We’ve summed the food intolerances and sensitivities a person might have into these three following groups.

Dairy Products

Dairy products like milk and cheese are extremely nutritious foods, but in those with dairy sensitivities they have also been shown to contribute to chronic fatigue. Dairy sensitivity manifests from either an allergy to casein or a more general lactose intolerance. The digestion of dairy, or any other food that a person is allergic to, causes a great deal of extra stress on the body. The immune system fights against it, resulting in inflammation that can range from joint pain to headaches to a swelling in the small intestine. And it is this swelling in the small intestine that hinders digestion and the effective processing of nutrients. When sensitivities like this impair our ability to get the nutrients we need from our food, we are left tired, unmotivated and lacking in energy.

Wheat could be very addictive and can cause cravings and mood swings. Gluten is most often the allergen when it comes to wheat sensitivity, and though scientists have yet to pin point the exact reason, gluten has been intrinsically linked to causing high levels of fatigue in those who have an intolerance. Some believe the exhaustion is a consequence of the malnutrition that comes with a severe gluten problem like celiac disease, or in individuals who suffer from anemia and are not on a gluten free diet. Also the foods that cause drowsiness include sweets and starchy carbohydrates such as cookies, cake, white rice, white bread, and enriched white pasta. These foods can cause your blood sugar levels to get out of control. You may have noticed that eating a donut, for instance, gives you a short-lived sugar high, and followed by a sluggish, tired and hungry feeling.

The Nightshade vegetables & fruits

Another very common food group that has been linked to severe fatigue include the fruits and vegetables belonging to the nightshade family. These include popular items such potatoes, goji berries, peppers (bell peppers, chili peppers, paprika, tamales, tomatillos, pimentos, cayenne, etc.) as well as tobacco! If you are suffering with fatigue and exhaustion and are aware that you are specifically allergic to one of these foods, then you are most likely sensitive to some or all of the other foods within the family. And you should start looking for substitute’s when you are doing your online organic food delivery in San Diego.

Think about these things next time you get angry at your waiter during your dinner in San Diego

Anger is a toxic emotion.

Such a statement might seem redundant because everyone knows that, but let’s be real with ourselves for a second, because once anger has its grips on you, and its poison begins to seep into your mind, you’re not really yourself anymore, are you?

Anger changes us in ways that can cause those closest to us to see not a loveable human being anymore, but a monster in human skin. The negative energy that washes off us in waves when we are angry only serves to bring down those around us. And if that anger is focused, it becomes a blade of white hot fire, searing the good vibes within its target, and perpetuating a cycle of negativity.

It takes a strong soul to be able to let go and forgive someone’s anger, especially if it is directed at them and even more so if the anger is misplaced.

When someone close to you gets angry, it can almost seem like a betrayal; ‘how can you get angry at me over something like this? Why aren’t we focusing on the solution or the happiness?’

This can start the cycle of negativity, the spread of toxicity, and bring out feelings of resentment and hate in those who are trying to find inner peace.

It’s too easy for most human beings to fall into this trap called anger, and it takes self-control and more than a bit of patience to stay strong enough to not let others anger bring you down to their level.

The important thing to remember when someone is angry at you, is that you yourself are not the one that is angry, that their anger doesn’t define your next action towards them or even after the altercation.

It maybe someone in your family, it may be someone at work, college, or just during your daily healthy breakfast foods San Diego run, but what should be considered is that none of those people are you.

Another’s anger is their own problem, and never should you allow it to bring you down from your progression to inner peace and self-progression.

The next time someone gets angry at you or around you, just remind yourself that their anger is caused by a lack of something in their life, something that is causing an imbalance; a distraction from the solution to the problem, and if there isn’t a problem, then from their own peace of mind, which in turn is a problem. And so the cycle continues.

Here at SolCal we wish everyone a wonderful day, full of peace and happiness and delicious food.

Stay Happy Everyone.

The Importance of Self Defense

Our friendly neighbor Mr. Rogers taught us the importance of looking for helpers in scary and hurtful situations; those that maybe putting themselves in the line of danger to help others, and keep them safe.

But it’s also important to remember that we are not helpless, and that we can take steps to prevent harm from coming our way.

No one wants to get mugged on their way to a restaurant in San Diego, nor would anyone want that to happen to loved ones.

We live in a time where everything that happens in the world is known to us thanks to the internet, and a side effect of this is we have seen what tragedies occur, seemingly so frequent, that there is never any escape.

But no matter how bleak it may seem, there is good in this world, and there is sensibility in protecting yourself from potential harm.

Here at SolCal, we want to make sure everyone is safe and capable of taking care of themselves, that’s why we’re going to take a look at some of the best reasons why everyone should consider Self-Defense lessons.

  1. Perception and Awareness out in Public

Your awareness is the difference between safety and hazard. When targeted for assault, an attacker will try to look for a window of opportunity where you’re unaware, making it easier to fall victim to their scheme. Being capable of spotting your potential attacker and making note of them in case they try something is a massive point for your security.

2. It has a positive influence on your life

Almost everyone knows how physical activity is vital for the body and even for our mood. Self-Defense creates a calmer, focused demeanor, with a great likely hood for a better body image and overall general happiness. Having at least one activity for ourselves that gets us out of our head and into our body is therapeutic; it allows for catharsis from anxiety and depression.

But be smart with how you begin such an activity; do your research, find a form of self-defense that you thing would fit you, and check your potential instructor to see if their style of teaching would be suitable for your way of learning. You can even take it a bit further and try to find a gym or dojo that’s near to somewhere that has healthy breakfast food restaurants to make getting the necessary sustenance easy!

3. It builds confidence

Building on the previous point, another added benefit of self-defense is the increased confidence boost in almost all aspects of life.

You’ll find yourself happier with yourself, the potential of intruding, dark thoughts will lessen, and even if you find yourself walking through a dangerous neighborhood, you’ll be calmer and more assured that you can take care of most dangerous situations, though that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be cautious in such a scenario.

4. It helps develop discipline and handling high pressure situations

None of us wish to deal with a situation that has our very lives at stake, but training and discipline are key to survival in such worst-case scenarios. Remember that self-defense is meant as preparation to potentially save you or others from dangerous situations, and the mental conditioning from self-defense is the difference between panicking and staying calm.

Breakfast in the San Diego heat – Add these cooling foods to your meal

The seasons of the weather; some have a natural affinity to the colder seasons, and some to the warmer, and others are just awesome enough to enjoy both without pause.

Though we all know a winter person won’t enjoy the summer heat as much as a summer person and vice-versa, it’s very important that for everyone to know how to properly take care of themselves in different weather conditions, especially the ones we don’t like.

So today we’re going to talk about some healthy foods to keep cool in the summer heat.

  • Watermelon

Planning some fun in the sand and sun? Cut up one of these bad boys up, put the pieces in a Tupperware container, and place that in your cooler to take with you for a wonderful, healthy, cooling desert to go with your beach dinner in San Diego.

You’re also doing your body a favor as watermelon contains citrulline which your body converts to ammonia to keep stomach acid at healthy levels.

Cantaloupe and Honeydew Melon are also great alternatives/additives

  • Cucumber

There’s a reason we have the saying ‘cool as a cucumber’, and that’s really because they are a great food to keep you hydrated on those really sunny days. You can even make a very useful detox drink by mixing mint, lemon, and cucumber together; a combination that will help cleanse your body, and keep your cool. They’re also a great snack for diabetics due to having no sugar content.

  • Grapes

This is one of my personal favorites as a kid; just sitting in front of the TV on a hot summer day, a bowl of cold grapes between my brother and I as we watch Toonami on Cartoon Network, good times.

These little numerous round fruits not only make the delicious wine you can have along with your dinner in San Diego, but also are a great way to keep you hydrated, and if you’re someone who loves to constantly snack like I do, there’s plenty of worse choices than grapes.

  • Radishes

Probably the most underrated and least known of the ‘summer cool foods’

With a very high water content, and an awesome source of vitamin C that translates to them being abundant in antioxidants and have anti-inflammatory capabilities.

The tasty, crispy, white interior goes great on almost any salad.

  • Mint

Anyone who’s had a mint or peppermint candy knows the cooling effect of menthol, which is why we had to add mint to this list of awesome stuff to keep you cool during the summer heat.

With a scent that can help invigorate you, especially if you’re feeling particularly lethargic due to the heat, and known for their ability to cool down and relax your body and mind, it makes sense that mint has been used for generations by herbalists to create basic medicine such as ointments to combat inflammation, and teas to soothe indigestion.

What do you think about these ways to keep cool? If you know any others, let us know in the comments down below.

San Diego Mornings – Finished with your healthy breakfast food restaurant – Find a quiet spot to relax

Sometimes we need to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city and just find a place where all you can hear is the sound of water flowing and the birds chirping.

While some are more attuned to a lifestyle surrounded by nature, which leads to things like light, sound, and air pollution being minimal, there are others who generally feel at home in urban life, regardless of these factors. But getting away from these things from time to time is good for us.

It’s good for our health to get those positive vibes from the sounds of nature, and good for our ears to get away from city noise pollution for a while.

Thankfully there are some places like that in San Diego, though some are only quiet on certain days, a good example would be certain beaches on the weekdays.

So sit back, relax, and let us tell you about our favorite places to chill quietly.

  1. Breakers Beach

Here’s a great example of a place where the only thing you’ll hear is the sound of the waves flowing along the coast, the cries of the seagulls in the sky, and the wind rushing through this big, open, sandy field.

If the wind isn’t too crazy, I’d say this would be a great place to set up for a quite picnic for one. Pop open your cooler, grab a cold one, listen to some Hammock, Bon Iver, or anything that you like to listen to on a chill day and enjoy the serenity of nature.

  1. Mission Basilica San Diego de Alcalá

Regardless of religious outlook, no one can deny that there is a sense of peace to be found at the Mission Basilica San Diego de Alcalá.

You could be an overworked chef at a catering service in San Diego, and after spending some time here, whether it be taking the tour, or simply sitting at one of the outdoor benches and enjoying the view, you’ll find the stress easing away from the tranquility of the environment.

  1. Torrey Pines State Reserve Extension

Hiking isn’t for everyone, this is a fact that personally makes me sad, as I think everyone should spend a little time in nature every once in a while. But if you tried it and you didn’t like it, I can’t really say anything; you had the experience and it wasn’t for you.

But for anyone that hasn’t, all I have to say is don’t knock it until you try it.

This is one of my favorite recommendations to get away from city life; a one hour hike through the Torrey Pines state reserve extension.

Since this isn’t the main hiking trail, you’ll find less people, which is perfect if you’re looking for a quiet spot to reflect or just be by yourself.

We all need some me time to collect our thoughts and sift through our brain.

  1. Botanical Building & Lily Pond

The first thing I need to tell you about going here is that if you want to enjoy it without any overbearing crowds, go during the week and never on weekends.

Something that is really recommended is to go there early Friday morning right before opening, and listen to the bells chime as the entrance opens, picturesque serenity.
